I can’t Believe It! 3456 Most Photogenic 1st: 75 2nd: 6287 As usual, the FLL competition at Blackstone Regional was well run (and on schedule!) and a great day of competition for 64 FLL teams. Sharon was represented by: Sharon A - the Black Botz team (judging results) Sharon B - the Think Outside the Botz team (judging results) Sharon C - the Unknown team (judging results) and all three of them did very well. In the morning qualifying rounds, Sharon A finished 2nd (high score 229), B finished 3rd (high score 190) and C finished 5th (high score 180). The Red Gear Ticks from Lincoln finished 1st (high score 240), and the Dover Rovers finished 4th (high score 185). The independent Sharon Devil Bots finished 9th (high score 140). The Bricksters from Foxboro finished 36th (high score 81). The afternoon single elimination rounds were exciting, and Sharon teams did well again. The quarter-finals saw Sharon C falling to the Dover Rovers, and Sharon A & B advancing. The semi-finals saw Sharon A and B pitted against each other, with Sharon A advancing. The finals were Sharon A opposite the Dover Rovers, with Sharon A achieving 1st place. In the award presentations, Sharon C received a "Most Photogenic Robot" trophy, and Sharon A received the Champions Award, as well as the Robot Performance trophy. Each of the Sharon teams received the coveted "Golden Tickets", qualifying them for the State Championship competition (Robonautica at WPI in Worcester, December 20th). Our thanks to all the volunteers that made the day possible - from Mike Norton, the Tournament Director; through the judging group from WPI led by Ken Stafford and Colleen Shaver; to the students and staff from Blackstone Valley Regional who filled so many roles throughout the day. You folks rock! Members of Team Unlimited (FTC 1) were busy all day with referee duties, with Patrick and Coach John as Chief Referees, and Nick and Omer as center table referees, with MA Championship Head Referee Jack Gregory helping to train the referee group before competition started. 16 table running simultaneously need a lot of officiating! Pre-tournament: SYRA runoffs were held on Wednesday 11-19-08 at the Girl Scout House to determine which Sharon Eagle Robotics teams will represent us at the Blackstone Regional FLL tournament to be held Saturday 11-22-08. Rankings were as follows:
The teams that didn't qualify this time will have our slots in Quincy, so each Sharon team will attend a qualifying tournament for the state championship. A great job by all 6 teams in the runoff! The Mentors team will see you there! Our Sharon teams will all have tables in the smaller gymnasium, not the cafe. After each match, your team will be required to reset the table, to reduce the incidence of pieces being carried away. The doors will open at the Blackstone Valley Regional Technical High School at 7:00 AM. Opening announcements in the new Competition Center at 8:00 am. The first matches start at 9:00 am, with 5 matches to achieve your best score, to seed for the afternoon single-elimination matches. The final elimination matches will start at 12:30 pm. The awards ceremony should start around 3:00 pm, and the tournament should be over by 4:00 pm. The competition will include 64 teams (the largest of the Massachusetts tournaments), including four from Sharon. Our Mentor team will be present, to help mentor the competing Sharon teams and to volunteer to referee and judge for the tournament.
