Post-tournament: As usual, the FLL competition at Quincy North High School were great fun, and a great day of competition for 36 FLL teams. Sharon was represented by: Sharon A - the XBots team Sharon B - the ZotBots team Sharon C - the Unknown team and all three of them did very well. Sharon C achieved the high score for the day (210), and was awarded the Robot Performance Award and the Champions Award. Sharon B finished second for Robot Performance (140), with Sharon A tied for eighth (their high score, 165, was unfortunately in the practice round). Sharon A received the runner-up Robot Design award. Genghis Khan Bots came in third for Robot Performance (135). Congratulations to all the teams at Quincy - you rock! We have hundreds of photos posted! All are from the first 3 rounds, as our photographer needed to return to run his FTC team meeting that afternoon. Patrick and Coach John from Team Unlimited (FTC 1) helped with field training for table resetters and referees, and Patrick acted as a backup ref through the early rounds.
Pre-tournament: SYRA runoffs were held on Wednesday 12-03-08 at the Girl Scout House to determine which three Sharon Eagle Robotics team will represent us at the Quincy/Gillette FLL qualifying tournament to be held Saturday (12-06-08) from 8:00am to 3:30pm. The teams were separated into two sets: those that did not go to the Blackstone tournament (ZotBots, XBots, and L-Bots), and those that did (BlackBotz, Unknown, and Think Outside the Bots). Then the best 2 of 3 matches were used to rank the teams in each set.
Because the L-Bots did not contest the runoff, one of the Blackstone teams could go to a second qualifier. This team proved to be the Unknown team, which not only scored the most points on the night, but also: 1. Raised the house on their first run, winning them 2 pounds of LEGO, and 2. On their second run, became the first team to score 200 or more points on a Wednesday night, gaining them another pound of LEGO! So, the Sharon teams for Quincy, are as follows: Sharon A - ZotBots Sharon B - X-Bots Sharon C - Unknown On Saturday at the tournament, doors will open at 8:00am, with registration from 8:00 to 9:00am. Opening ceremonies are at 9:00am, with both qualifying matches (high score of 3 rounds) and judging sessions from 9:30am to 12:30pm. After a one hour break, the matches will continue from 1:30 to 2:30pm, followed by awards from 2:30 to 3:30pm. Food (AM coffee, juice & doughnuts; PM hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages) will be available in the cafeteria. At registration, the team should have a participation fee of $50.00, four completed Team Introduction Forms (with team photo attached to each), and FLL Consent Forms for each team member and coach. For teams that are not school-affiliated, a insurance waiver sheet must be submitted with your registration. This is simply a list of all attendees, with their current insurance plans and policy numbers. This year's 2008 tournament competition manual (in .doc format) can be downloaded.
