While at the FIRST Competition in Atlanta Georgia in 2007, check out . . .

Visit Mary Mac's Tea Room for a real Southern family-style meal!  We make it a point to visit every year, and we are never disappointed!

Visit The Varsity for a great drive-in meal experience that could make you think you are back in the 50s! (Wadya have?)

Visit the Georgia Aquarium, said to be the world's largest! Check out the Whale Sharks!  But . . . pre-book your tickets on-line, as they are sold for timed entry, and the slots were sold out at Championship time last year!  Also, you must go through security, so leave the multi-tools (etc) behind (they don't allow fishing poles either!).

Visit The World of Coca-Cola for the tasting room with soda flavors from all over the world.

Visit Jake's Ice Cream for the Brown Sugar Vanilla (and all the other great flavors)!

Stay at The Sheraton Atlanta Downtown for their wonderful indoor-outdoor pool!

Grant Imahara - we met him at the FIRST Vex Challenge in Atlanta - a talented roboticist, a big supporter of FIRST, and a great guy!  In addition to his work for Industrial Light and Magic (R2D2, Energizer Bunny) and his new role with MythBusters on the Discovery Channel, he built and competed with the BattleBot "Deadblow".

See Grant's article for the new Robot Magazine about the MythBusters constructing a "PackBot" robot from Vex components!

He also wrote the excellent book "Kickin' Bot", which we highly recommend!  He concentrates on robust drive-train and platform design, and we found the sections focusing on metal fabrication particularly helpful (FLL teams don't do a whole lot of that, but we have started into it with the FIRST Vex Challenge).

Robot Magazine - a new quarterly magazine dedicated to robotics.

Make Magazine - a new quarterly magazine for people that get a kick out of making over technology to fit their own needs.  Their blog is fascinating, and updated constantly.

Servo Magazine - a monthly magazine dedicated to robotics, from the publishers of the hobby electronics magazine Nuts & Volts.

MIT 6.270 Autonomous Robot Design Competition - every January, MIT undergraduates make robots from a wide selection of electronics and LEGOs.  At the end of the month, a public competition is held on-campus and webcast.

The MIT Museum has great exhibits, including cool machine sculptures and historic research robots.  The Hart Nautical Gallery has an exhibition on underwater robotics!  For those that miss the past MIT Hacks exhibit, recent ones are commemorated at the Gallery of Hacks.

The Flea@MIT flea market on the 3rd Sunday from April - October is a great place to find interesting tech stuff at affordable prices.  A copy of the notice or flyer saves you a dollar!

When in Cambridge, the Miracle of Science Bar & Grill has great hamburgers in a tech decor.  You eat on lab table surfaces, and the menu is posted on a chalkboard in a periodic table format!

VexLabs Pneumatics - Innovation FIRST Inc. did the original designs for the Vex Robotics System, which is based on the Robovation (originally EDUrobotics) system used by FRC teams for training.  They are FIRST sponsors, and have a site dedicated to Vex-compatible equipment.  Their new Vex-scaled pneumatics system is great!
