Sharon Scores at Eastern Massachusetts State
Tournament!
After qualifying to represent the Sharon Youth Robotics Association
(SYRA) in an
internal competition, the Sharon Eagle Robotic Chimps and the Sharon Eagle
Robotics Unlimited
teams had a memorable day at the Eastern Massachusetts FLL State tournament
held at Quincy North High School on Saturday, December 4th. The morning competition for top score in the
FIRST LEGO League 2004 No Limits challenge included three rounds for each team
to achieve their highest average score, with the SER Unlimited team qualified
with the highest average score, and the SER Chimps team qualifying for the
finals as well at 14th (only the top 16 teams qualified). After a quick
break for lunch, the high score elimination rounds continued. The Robotic
Chimps team made it to the top eight, a strong finish for the team in their
first season. Through three intense rounds, the Unlimited team was
fortunate to continue on to face North Andover team in the final match.
The incredible machine that the North Andover team designed to score all of the
balls quickly gave them the edge in the final match. Defeat for the
Unlimited team left them in second place for the day in Robotic Performance.
The Robotic Chimps team was awarded the Top Rookie Team award, for finishing
ahead of all other teams that were competing in their first tournament. Their
performance for the day truly showed No Limits! For the Unlimited team,
the award for Research Innovation joined the Runner-up award for Robotic
Performance.
